ClubFit Compare is a price comparison site for pre-owned golf clubs. We do not have user accounts, we do not ask you to log in, and we do not set any advertising cookies. We set analytics cookies only if you accept them. This notice explains the little we do collect.
What we collect
We measure how the site is used so we can improve it. Specifically we record:
- Pages viewed, and when
- The site or search engine you arrived from
- Your device type, browser and operating system
- Which retailer links are clicked, along with the club, price and retailer shown at the time
- Searches and filters used on the browse page
Our own measurement holds all of this as aggregate statistics. We do not build a profile of you, we do not track you across other websites, and none of the above is stored in a form that identifies you.
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics also records your visits against a random identifier stored in a cookie on your device, so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one. That identifier does not contain your name or contact details, and we do not use it for advertising.
What we do not collect
We do not store your IP address. To count visitors rather than visits, our analytics turns your IP address and browser details into a one-way hash using a secret that is discarded and replaced every night. The result cannot be turned back into an IP address, and yesterday’s hash cannot be matched to today’s. We do not collect your name, email address, postal address or payment details, because we never ask for them and we never handle a transaction.
Cookies
We set no advertising cookies. Our own measurement, through Plausible, uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Because it is limited to aggregate statistics used only to improve this site, it falls within the statistical purposes exception in regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and runs without asking.
Google Analytics is different: it uses cookies, so we ask first. Its tag loads on every page, but in Google’s “consent mode”, which sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device unless you press Accept on the cookie banner. Until you accept, or if you reject, it sends Google a cookie-free signal that a page was viewed. Like any request your browser makes, that signal carries your IP address and browser details, but no identifier that links one visit to another. Google says Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses, and uses these signals only to estimate overall traffic. If you accept, Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_DBS52WBYTQ, which distinguish visitors and sessions and last up to two years. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page; choosing Reject removes those cookies.
Your choice itself is remembered in your browser’s local storage so we do not ask on every page. That is strictly necessary to honour it.
One functional cookie may be set if you use a password-protected preview of the site. It remembers only that the password was entered correctly.
Legal basis
Under UK GDPR we rely on legitimate interests for our own aggregate measurement: understanding how the site is used so we can make it better and show retailers how much traffic we send them. We have balanced this against your interests, and consider the impact low because the data is aggregate and cannot identify you.
For Google Analytics cookies we rely on your consent, which you give on the cookie banner and can withdraw at any time. For the cookie-free signals sent before you choose, we rely on legitimate interests, on the same basis as our own aggregate measurement.
Who processes data for us
- Plausible Analytics (EU) measures site traffic on our behalf as a processor. Plausible is cookieless and does not use your data for its own purposes.
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited) measures site use on our behalf: with cookies only if you accept them, and otherwise through the cookie-free signals described above. The site tells Google that advertising storage, advertising use of your data and ad personalisation are all refused.
- Supabase (EU, Ireland) hosts our database, including the aggregate click statistics.
- DigitalOcean (London) hosts the website itself.
These providers act on our instructions and do not sell or share your data.
Links to retailers
When you click through to a retailer you leave this site, and that retailer’s own privacy notice and cookie policy take over. Some of those links carry an affiliate code so the retailer knows the visit came from us, including links to the eBay Partner Network. We are paid a commission on some purchases, which is explained in our affiliate disclosure. We do not receive any personal information back from retailers about what you bought.
How long we keep it
Individual event records are deleted after 400 days. Daily totals derived from them contain no device or location detail and are kept indefinitely so we can compare one year with the next. Google Analytics keeps its data for at most 14 months.
How to object
You can tell us to stop measuring your visits at any time, free of charge and without giving a reason. Email [email protected] with the word “object” in the subject line and we will stop. You can also block our measurement yourself with any standard content blocker or privacy extension. Nothing on this site stops working if you do. To stop Google Analytics, use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page and choose Reject, which stops the cookies; to stop the cookie-free signals as well, use a content blocker.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to processing. In practice we usually cannot identify which records relate to you, because we do not hold anything that links them to you. Where that is the case we are not required to collect extra information simply to find you, but we will always act on an objection as described above.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
International transfers
Our processors store data in the UK and the European Economic Area. Where any transfer outside the UK occurs, it is covered by the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses. Google may process Google Analytics data in the United States, covered by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Google is certified.
Changes to this notice
If we change what we collect we will update this page and change the date at the top.
